History

KACT AM signed on the air, January 12th 1955. KACT operates at a daytime power of 1,000 watts, and reduces power to 247 watts at night.

KACT FM signed on the air, in 1978, and operates at 3,000 watts. Both stations simulcast country music 24 hours a day.

Programming

Local information begins each morning with Local Obituaries, at 7:50am. The morning show, “The Trading Post” airs from 8:05am to 9:15am. Host Gerald Reid, Station Manager, is joined by rotating Co-Hosts, Lonna Bevel, Liz Stottlemyre, Pete Francis, Wendy Inlow, Brian McNett, and Rosie Rodriguez. In addition to being a program to sell items, find lost dogs, or announce lost pets, or garage sales, we feature interviews with citizens about upcoming events, and important happenings in the community. “Off The Cuff” with attorney Bert Smith, is part of the Trading Post on Tuesday mornings at 9:02am. Wednesday mornings at 8:45am “Ask A Lawyer” with attorney Mark Hooper, answers questions of a legal nature for the audience, and Friday mornings, Chamber Manager Rosie Rodriguez, Does “Chamber Notes”, at 8:45, informing about everything going on at the Andrews Chamber of Commerce. Following the “Trading Post” and running up to 12noon, is the popular “Randy Ray Radio Program”.
Randy Ray has listeners all over the area, with his wide selection of older country music, and lively comment. KACT AM FM are affiliates of the ABC Country Coast to Coast Music Network, featuring “Today’s Best Country” that airs from 12noon, until the next morning, at 7:50. ABC News is heard at the top of each hour, around the clock. KACT AM & FM are the only 2 radio stations in Andrews County.

Sports

KACT does live coverage of the Andrews Mustangs and Lady Mustangs games. All Mustang Football games are broadcast, with Pete Francis and Eric Hammack doing the broadcast.

Lady Mustangs District Volleyball Games are broadcast, on KACT AM, 1360 with Randy Hogan doing the play by play.

Mustangs and Lady Mustangs District Basketball Games are broadcast with the team of Dr. Windle Harper, and his wife, Linda, doing the broadcast. With boys and girls teams playing in the same location, those games can be heard consecutively.

Following Basketball season, Mustangs Baseball can be heard on KACT FM 105.5 with Eric Hammack, and Lady Mustangs Softball, with Randy Hogan gets underway on KACT AM 1360. Of course often, Mustang and Lady Mustang Playoff Games will be aired post season.
